Spring Break Might Just Kill Me

And if it did, I don't think I'd mind much. So, I just got back from MD last night. It was insanely fun. Especially Saturday. This is what we did Saturday:

Kevin and I woke up at 5 in the morning. We ate oatmeal and stretched in prep for snowboarding. Then we met Lauryn, Josh, and Rachel at Lauryn and Josh's at 7. Then we hit the road for snowboarding! Poor Kevin had to drive with me Lauryn and Rachel in the car. It was quite interesting for him. The three of us didn't shut up the whole way there...it was only like an hour and some minutes, though...

OH! And Kevin gave me my belated Valentine's gift...MY SO-CALLED LIFE!!! Not shit, he did! And I watched three discs of it already.

Okay, so back to Saturday...I was really nervous about snowboarding 'cause I haven't been in probably 3 plus years. But when we got there it was snowing! I got to see snow coming out of the sky. It was wonderful and exhilarating. Then it stoped. Which sucks 'cause the place we went had really bad conditions. It was all icey which makes it really hard for snowboarding. I didn't do too bad. I fell, of course. But only three times. The second time I fell was the worst. My nurse friend, Gina says I bruised my tailbone. It freakin' hurts. Still. Like really bad. Especially when I sit certain ways.

We left kinda early 'cause everyone was tired of the ice and my ass hurt. Then we had party at Lauryn and Josh's. They grilled cabobs. Yummy. And we drank a lot. Laughed a lot. And took various incriminating pictures. Danced a little to Wu and David Bowie. In all, it was terribly fun!

Today, I planted some flowers. So pretty. And some herbs. Smells so pretty. Then I slammed my finger in the door. Or, rather my door tried to eat my finger. I thought it was okay at first, but when I looked at it, it was bleeding all over. I freaked out and tried to run it under water, but that hurt really bad. It bled and bled so bad I couldn't look at it. I was scared I would need stitches or part of it was missing. I had to call my neighbor over to look at it because I couldn't bring myself to do so. He helped my bandage it up. It really hurts and makes it difficult to type.

So, that has been my injurious spring break so far. But I can't complain.

Keep Truckin'

I'm on page nine right now, you probably are too, Dyanne. I think we're the only two working on our papers right now. Either that or everyone else got smart and kicked their LJ habit. I still don't know if I have stuck to my topic or gone off. At this point, I have to go with what I got and put the puppy to sleep when I think I'm trough. I WILL have this done by noon tomorrow. I actually think I may go over. Right now I have no intro. and I still have some quotations I want to play with. Maybe I will finish writing this tonight and then finish my prtfolios and revise in the morning when I have fresh eyes and a semi clear brain. I hope I haven't writing this incoherent in my essay.

I'm going to get back to the essay, but I will check in with you soon.

When Blogging Destroyed 6700

You may have noticed that this is my second blog in about 7 minutes. But I just wanted to say, have you noticed how we all keep blogging each other instead of doing our papers? I think it is an evil experiment set up,possibly by Barclay, to see how many of us will fail because of blogging. WE CAN'T STOP! If we ever want to finish our papers we need to disconnect our internet and keep working on our papers. Who's in?

Okay, well, I'll be back in a few...

I can't think of a Subject

So, am I the only one dumb enough to have not gone with Richad Miller and Surwjasdikjfio? I'm doomed.

Good news though, I just got to page seven.

Bad news, I don't know what I'm writing about.

Good news for all of you, I don't know what I'm writing about

Bad news for me, I still have to write a paper on Faulkner.

When will it end? When?

It is 6:41. I got home over an hour ago. I smoked, checked my messages, dicked around on LJ, and then dicked around some more. I think I'll smoke again, then I WILL start writing my paper.

What if I Wore Ugly Shoes?

The Ugly Shoes post just made me think of this article we had to read in colloquium by Pamela Johnston called "Dressing the Part." In this article she discusses the authority teachers gain by the way they dress. She challenges the truth behind this idea, but also goes on to discuss it in terms of gender. She writes, "Female professors are supposed to know how to dress; it's part of the gender performance on which we're evaluated. Failing to dress well suggests an incompetence that might undermine a woman's authority in other areas. If she doesn't even know how to dress, the student thinks, how could she possibly know that this paper deserves a C?"

She also writes, "Male professors aren't expected to have any fashion sense, so relying on that old standard, 'guy casual,' can't hurt them."

So, maybe your students didn't notice your shoes because to them what you wear isn't all that important...Your shoes don't threaten the grade they may receive on their Pratt paper and they don't undermine your authority or how intelligent (or not) you are. Or, maybe the shoes are the reason for the water treading in class. Either way, maybe you should swing by Payless and purchase some water shoes.
...I just thought this would be something to think about. Has anyone seen any reactions from their students based on the way they dress?
